Following the incident, Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly and AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami slammed M K Stalin-led DMK government terming it as the ruling party’s failure to pay attention to women’s safety.
A four-month-pregnant woman was allegedly sexually harassed and pushed off a moving train in Tamil Nadu Thursday, according to a report.
News agency ANI reported that the incident happened in the women’s compartment of the Tirupati Intercity Express, and the injured woman was sent to a hospital.
“When the woman struggled to escape and shouted for help, the accused pushed her off the train. The incident happened on February 6 in Tirupati Intercity Express. The public found the woman with injuries and sent her to the hospital. A case has been registered,” an officer of the Railway Police in Jolarpettai of the state’s Tirupattur district was quoted as saying by ANI.
Following the incident, the Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Edappadi K Palaniswami slammed the M K Stalin-led DMK government terming it as the ruling party’s failure to pay attention to women’s safety. While urging for strict legal action, the AIADMK leader said that it is a shame that women in Tamil Nadu cannot even travel by train.
“On the train travelling between Coimbatore and Tirupati: The news that a pregnant woman was sexually assaulted by two men and then pushed off a train when she tried to scream is shocking. It is the height of shame that women in Tamil Nadu cannot walk safely on the road; cannot go to school, colleges, or workplaces; and now cannot even travel by train. @mkstalin The continuation of such atrocities is an extension of the DMK government’s failure to pay even the slightest attention to the safety of women,” Palaniswami’s post on X, roughly translated from Tamil, read
“Sexually harassed, regardless of whether she was a pregnant woman, I urge that strict legal action be taken against these perverted and devious people,” he added.
